Cheddar cheese by ThemeFinland Cheddar cheese by ThemeFinland
"The legend says that the holes in cheese were created by small creatures known as draggos. These tiny creatures existed a long time ago when cheese was first discovered. After learning of the existence of cheese the hungry and mischievous draggos grew a sort of a liking to this cheese. Wherever cheese was left unguarded overnight these little creatures would find it with their keen sense of smell. They would burrow themselves inside it, creating small tunnels wihin it as they would eat their bellies full. Occasionally some of them would get stuck inside and the others would have to help their poor draggo friend out. They would eat and eat until every piece of cheese was covered in holes and their appetite was sated. The god of food, Faroso, was sleeping through the night after his large feast, but in the morning he was devastated to find all of the cheeses filled with tiny holes! Faroso raged and raged! Demanding to know who did this, completely overlooking the tiny draggos. Ashamed of their overindulgence and scared of Faroso, the draggos disappeared, leaving no trace behind. Or did all of them disappear? Who else could be making the holes into our cheeses? Perhaps they still appear from time to time for their midnight snacks to fill their little tummies full of cheese."

Inspired by the track "Life in clay" by Koloto, this whimsical track gave me this idea while I was riding the train and unlike my normal approach to these things, I wrote the story before I drew this.

Cheddar Cheese is a fantastic piece. It delivers a lore of cheese having holes to a creative level. Just the concept alone is very mythological and very interesting. The picture is also so well executed in terms of technique that it makes you be in awe of a silly cheese concept. But it works. Execution matters more than the concept in some cases and in this case that is true. One thing I love is the fact that the artist takes a risk to make a three dimensional space with a table. These drawings are high risk because from experience if you want to make something three dimensional you think of more of a room or a whole landscape. This also brings back the scaling to feel just as small but very observant eye for the creatures as if we were looking closely analyzing it. I also love the fact that the objects in the background look so large. This allows shading to occur which helps give this piece depth. The creatures look so cool as well. I love the fact that they appear to be alive as if they were simply frozen in time doing something that a living thing would. This helps give the picture a sense of an identity. I didn't see any negatives but if anyone else does, or the artist does himself. Please let me know how I did. Thank you and I highly recommend this piece. Have a great day.

To be honest, I never really knew as to how those holes were actually made with the real Swiss cheese...

And I can't be bothered to really look it up either, I guess I like this reality better :D (Big Grin)

Imagination is indeed bliss...

This is so cute! I love how the little draggos just sort of flop over when their tummies get too full!XD

(Oh, one thing you could add is that as the draggos eat their way through the cheese they leave an oil behind, which their skin naturally produces to help them slide through smaller space, and that helps change the flavor of the cheese as they work!)

Oh, that is a great idea! Now I am regretting not coming up with that myself :D That would explain why cheeses with holes in them taste so different than the sorts which do not!

Oh no, this story is meant as sort of a fairy tale, so there can be many different interpretations, so editing it in isn't necessary, despite it being a fantastic idea!

Alright, you really did come up with an awesome idea! At first I thought it was going to be a tiny amalgamate swarming cheese to grow bigger(Kinda like this game www.notdoppler.com/tastyplanet…), but this was much better!:D (Big Grin)
